‘De Groene Corridor’: playful neighborhood garden full of (bio)diversity

De Groene Corridor in Adinkerke is a vibrant green space, next to the railway line, that we are giving back to the neighborhood. A place to run, cycle, and play. Complete with old and new trees, wadis, and paths.

With a sparkling mix of creativity and technical expertise, Sweco has brought this neighborhood park to life. From design to project management, from visual design to green expertise, from safety coordination to project leadership, and from site supervision to tendering, we have handled every aspect with care and precision.

Project leader Ewout Vanden Bussche: “We are not only proud of the end result, but also of the positive impact it has on the neighborhood residents.”

Added value for the neighborhood

De Groene Corridor, also known as the ‘Buurt-Tuin’, serves as a green, playable space in the urban fabric of Adinkerke. It serves as a meeting place for the local community. It also provides a safe cycling connection between the railway and Noordhoekstraat, allowing cyclists to avoid the busy Stationsstraat.

De Groene Corridor provides the neighborhood with more space, more experiences, and play opportunities. It is an additional asset for the nearby schools and the youth organization of the Chiro.

Biodiversity in the park environment

In a harmonious blend of old and new, we have supplemented healthy native trees with tall fruit and nut trees. A structure of hedges, water ditches, and a playful pattern of mowed and unmowed grass together form a vibrant plant diversity.

A seating furniture adorns the heart of the space, while scattered throughout the area, picnic benches, benches, and play equipment invite to socialize and play. In the orchard, it is delightful to relax and enjoy the fresh fruit. All of this creates a dynamic and interactive green space that is both engaging and educational.
