By protecting trees we protect our future…

Construction sites are often associated with destruction. But did you know that with sustainable techniques and a conscious approach, it is possible to preserve trees and reduce the impact on the environment? We did so on the eco-district Coronmeuse in Liège, where Sweco is responsible for the Master plan and landscaping

Saving tree heritage

The first step to saving trees on construction sites is to identify any existing trees. A tree survey should be conducted to locate and identify the condition of trees on site. By using new techniques and delicate interventions Sweco can protect the tree heritage and improve soil structure with organic materials. These topics we address with the contractors in ambition to monitor the high-level objectives during execution; dewatering, soil compaction, water infiltration, recycling of materials, compost processing etc.

Fungi for healthy soil

Soil contamination is a common issue on construction sites, but there is a solution. Soil-improving bacteria and fungi can create a healthy environment for trees to grow. These microorganisms help improve soil structure and support the growth of healthy trees, and help preserve the natural environment. It’s like creating a mini-forest in the midst of a construction site.

So let’s create a better future, one tree at a time, for our planet.
