Early September. The school bell rings, chairs are taken down from the desks, and an excited buzz fills the classrooms. A school is more than just a place to learn: it\u2019s an environment that inspires, stimulates, and encourages growth during a twelve-year journey of discovery. The Egied Van Broeckhoven School is precisely such a school, an example of how a building can contribute to a learning environment that excites and motivates.<\/p>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n

Located in the multicultural neighbourhood of Sint-Jans-Molenbeek, a district in Brussels with its own unique challenges, the school\u2019s complex is a beautiful example of how new construction and renovation can go hand in hand.<\/strong> The school is housed in a former industrial building, which has been transformed into a modern, sustainable learning environment with respect for its heritage. This project supports the philosophy of <\/strong><\/span>Ignatiaanse<\/span> Scholen<\/span> in <\/span>Beweging<\/span><\/strong><\/em>.<\/strong> By working with local community organizations, the Jesuits give meaning to the concept of a broad school: thanks to a wide range of rooms and outdoor spaces, this project serves as a link between the learning landscape on one hand and the neighbourhood, city, and society on the other. Local sports clubs, like the boxing school, <\/span>provide<\/span> young people the opportunity to get together outside the school walls as well. It is a unique initiative without precedent, perfectly aligned with the school\u2019s vision. <\/span>Egied<\/span> would look <\/span>at it <\/span>with pride, because the man after whom the school is named lived in a poor working-class neighbourhood in Anderlecht, where he became known for his Diary of Friendship.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n
