Traffic congestion remains a persistent problem, with major social consequences. The demand for a modal shift <\/strong>is becoming increasingly more urgent. Since the 1990s, bicycle use has been steadily increasing, partly thanks to adapted infrastructure. The number of cyclists for commuting and school trips has increased significantly, particularly over the last 10 years. This growth is no coincidence. Governments are investing heavily in cycling infrastructure, with major projects like the Oosterweel Link <\/strong>and the Brussels Ring Road <\/strong>serving as catalysts. Bicycle highways <\/strong>are often constructed before the main works begin.<\/p>\n

Policy ambitions are converted into reality on the ground<\/h3>\n

The ambition to increase the cycling share of commuting to 30% is being realised at a concrete level in the plans of the transport regions<\/strong>, supported by more than 100 km of new cycling infrastructure <\/strong>within projects like the Oosterweel Link and the Brussels Ring Road. Commissioned by the Department of Mobility and Public Works (MPW), we are developing visions for bicycle paths, public transport-thoroughfares, and accessibility, in the Flemish periphery and the Ghent region. We not only provide maps, but also provide support in terms of participatory sessions <\/strong>with municipalities, residents, and stakeholders.<\/p>\n
