At the end of 2017, a giant pharmaceutical company decided to start the concept study for the construction of a new filling unit for vaccines. There was already a filling unit on the site that had been built for filling the Prevenar vaccine. Because that filling unit was running at full capacity, there was a need for a second plant that would fill 50% Prevenar and 50% future new products. The new plant would therefore be equipped to deliver vaccines in both liquid and freeze-dried form. After the concept study, the basic and detailed design followed, on which construction started in mid-2018. And then at the end of 2019 the message came that a particularly contagious virus was making the rounds in China… The site  was selected to produce and fill the covid-19 vaccine in the silk filling unit for the Prevenar vaccine that is under construction. From then on we made a lot of adjustments to get the plant ready. As of December 22, 2020,  the pharmaceutical company has continuously produced the vaccine in the new filling unit: a vaccine that has been administered around the world and saved millions of lives.
