Sweco and CONIX RDBM Architects share a strong belief in the power of multidisciplinary teams, where human expertise is enhanced by technology. CONIX RDBM Architects works from 1 mm to 1 km, from product design to urban planning. Its expertise spans architecture, interior design, concept development, graphic design, data analysis and policy advisory services, reflecting a broad and integrated design culture.

Integrated design solutions for high‑performing, future‑proof projects

Through the acquisition of CONIX RDBM Architects’ Belgian activities, Sweco Architects further reinforces its full life‑cycle design ambition. An integrated approach ensures that projects are high‑performing and future‑proof, combining architectural and spatial quality with demonstrable compliance with functional, technical and sustainability criteria throughout the entire life cycle.

CONIX RDBM Architects: designing positive impact

CONIX RDBM Architects has a rich and well‑established history. Founded in 1979 by Christine Conix, Conix Architects quickly gained recognition in both Belgian and international architectural circles. Landmark projects include the renovation of the Atomium, the Belgian Pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo, the Umicore headquarters and the London Tower. In 2013, the firm merged with RDBM Architects & Advisors, driven by a shared architectural vision. Under the name CONIX RDBM Architects, the portfolio expanded further with leading projects such as the O’Sea and Baelskaai urban developments in Ostend, the VUB campus expansion, the Herman Teirlinck Building (in collaboration with Neutelings Riedijk), the Multi office tower in Brussels, and the Q8 offices in Antwerp.

CONIX RDBM Architects currently operates from offices in Antwerp, Brussels, Amsterdam and Rotterdam, employing 45 people. As of 30 April, its Belgian activities will continue under Sweco Architects.

I am very pleased to welcome in the near future CONIX RDBM Architects into our group. This architectural practice has left a strong mark on the Belgian and international architectural scene through high‑quality, experience‑driven projects. Its commitment to sustainability closely aligns with our own values.

Erwin Malcorps, Business Area President at Sweco bv

This step empowers our architects to act as ambassadors of interdisciplinary design teams, strengthening the connection between the cultural and social value of architecture and all those involved. It also supports a professional and sustainable environment for both architecture and architects.

Frederik Jacobs, CEO and co-founder of CONIX RDBM Architects

Architecture is an integral part of our DNA

Since its founding, Sweco has combined architectural and technical expertise to deliver innovative solutions that bring together performance, aesthetics and sustainability. Today, our European network includes 1,500 architects across eight countries. This collective strength allows us to offer deep expertise in architecture and urban planning across sectors such as housing, healthcare, retail, offices, education, recreation and sports, infrastructure, industry and defence. Our multidisciplinary approach brings together urban planning, landscape design, architecture, interior design, heritage and lighting design. We respect local contexts while leveraging cross‑border knowledge to address major transition challenges such as urbanisation, digitalisation and climate neutrality.

Open collaboration model

Sweco continues to work closely with other architectural practices. When a client selects an external design partner, we ensure that even the most complex design processes run smoothly and cohesively. In this context, Sweco acts as the vital link between the external architect and our in‑house technical specialists. We actively promote rigorous coordination and clear, transparent communication between engineering and architectural teams—an essential prerequisite for the overall performance and success of the project.
