Pioneering a more resilient industry with the design of a green hydrogen plant

Norway is setting the stage for a sustainable transformation with the introduction of one of its first green hydrogen plants. This new venture, known as the Aquarius project, is expected to significantly lower CO2 emissions by an estimated 22,000 tons annually, marking a bold step in reducing the carbon footprint of industrial operations.

The power of green hydrogen

The demand for green hydrogen is on the rise within Europe’s industrial sector. As a clean energy source produced from water using renewable electricity, green hydrogen stands out for its potential to drive the industry towards a zero-carbon future.

The Aquarius project is a clear illustration of this potential. Situated at the Rafnes site, the facility will utilize an electrolysis installation to produce pure hydrogen and oxygen, leveraging Norway’s abundant renewable energy resources.

Innovation at the forefront

The integration of green hydrogen production into existing industrial frameworks requires a delicate balance of innovation and reliability. New technologies must be seamlessly incorporated without disrupting ongoing processes, requiring advanced process control, comprehensive testing, and the continuous development of innovative systems.

The partnership between Sweco and INOVYN reflects a commitment to green innovation. Sweco’s industry professionals have been actively engaged in the project, offering a blend of technical knowledge in industrial process installations and a ton of experience in hydrogen technology. Their work extends beyond borders, utilizing local expertise in Norway to facilitate the project’s success.
