Johan Van Reeth joins Antwerp’s Integrated Quality Chamber

Johan Van Reeth, Chief Sustainability Officer at Sweco, has been selected by the City of Antwerp as an urban planning expert in the integrated quality chamber for the next five years. This appointment is an important recognition of his extensive expertise, long-standing vision and strong commitment to sustainable urban development.

Alderman for Urban Development Patrick Janssens: “With this new cohort of members for our quality chamber, we are bringing in a strong team of independent experts. They will support our future city architect in making well-considered decisions for the city of tomorrow. Their extensive expertise—from architecture to public space and heritage—ensures that every project starts from principles of quality and liveability. That is a major gain for policy-making and for every resident of Antwerp.”

An important advisory role in spatial development

The City of Antwerp’s integrated quality chamber has a new composition. Five members will be available to the city architect for the next five years, serving as an advisory platform with experts in architecture, urban planning, public space and heritage. The integrated quality chamber supports the city architect in the substantive guidance of strategic projects, both public and private.

The City of Antwerp has had an aesthetics committee since 2000, responsible for monitoring spatial quality. Initially, the committee focused mainly on advising on visual quality and project architecture. In 2020, it was reformed into an Integrated Quality Chamber, which advises on urban development in the broadest sense: covering urban planning, public space, architecture, and heritage.
