Grid code compliance: safety and reliability for every project
Are you developing your own industrial projects or decentralised energy production? Then you probably know that ever larger electric consumers are coming onto the grid thanks to large-scale electrification of vehicles, heat pumps, battery storage (BESS) and solar panels. This is good news because it brings us closer to a fossil fuel-free future and reduces CO2 emissions. The less good news is that the power grid is coming under severe pressure. Grid code compliance is essential to ensure that your installation is connected safely and reliably.
Avoid delays through smooth grid connection
Any business committed to development and growth will have to deal with the importance of their electric grid connection. This is because the lead time of your projects depends heavily on the overall lead time of the grid connection. It is vital that installations are connected reliably, safely and according to regulations. This avoids disrupting the stability and operation of the grid.
Grid code compliance is a mandatory process where we check that your installations meet the technical standards according to EU regulations and the Belgian grid code. This is especially important for industrial assets and large decentralised generation plants with a capacity of more than 25 MW. Grid compliance ensures that your systems contribute to overall stability and can be safely connected to Elia’s high-voltage grid.
Grid code compliance: contributing together to a stable grid
How can you achieve grid compliance? We perform a simulation that shows whether your installation exhibits static and dynamic stable behaviour when frequency and voltage changes occur in the overhead electrical grid. We also consider whether the plant has sufficient capacity to play a supporting role.
We compare the plant’s response through benchmarking with the technical regulations determined by ENTSE-E and Elia. Depending on the type of asset – wind turbines, photovoltaic panels, batteries or synchronous generators – we apply different simulations.
As a developer, you are required to check the grid code compliance of new and existing installations. Without that compliance, your asset cannot be integrated. To avoid delays, it is important to complete this process as soon as possible. Because soon after that comes the next step: hot commissioning or live testing of the installation.
Take the step towards a stable future today
When we conduct a compliance study, we independently and objectively assess whether your assets meet the required standards. Our experts know the relevant studies and simulations needed for your specific situation. Grid code compliance offers you the benefits of a secure connection and a more stable electricity grid. So don’t take any risks and let us guide you through this essential process.
