Waste-to-x: get more from your materials and residual streams

In 2022, each EU citizen generated an average of 36 kg of plastic packaging waste. The OECD report, Global Plastics Outlook, predicts that the amount of plastic ending up in nature annually could rise to 44 million tonnes. The need for sustainable waste stream processing is therefore more urgent than ever. Climate change, environmental pollution and scarce resources demand smart solutions that go beyond traditional recycling.

Materials and residual streams as strategic assets

By cleverly utilising materials or residual streams, you can strengthen your competitive position, reduce operational costs – for instance through heat or energy recovery – and lower your emissions. We help you close the loop with solutions that are both technically and economically feasible.

9R as a lever for waste-to-X

Europe is setting the tone for a circular future with the 9R strategy (refuse, rethink, reduce, reuse, repair, refurbish, remanufacture, repurpose, recycle and recover). We no longer view waste streams as an endpoint but as a source of new products that are revalorised. Think of plastics or steel being reused, or one company’s residual streams becoming valuable raw materials for another (industrial symbiosis). Add AI integration, policy support and the development of industrial clusters, and the circular business case only gets stronger.

The Circular Economy Action Plan and Single-Use Plastics Directive also require organisations to elevate reuse and recycling. Those who commit to circular strategies today are ahead of the market – anticipating regulations and building a sustainable image.

Working together for circular impact

How do you translate those circular ambitions into concrete results? Our approach is aligned with the 9R strategy and combines strategy, technology and engineering into one comprehensive package.

  • Rethink your processes and business models (Rethink).
We advise on how to organise your organisation more intelligently and sustainably.
  • Choose the right technology and materials (Reduce, Reuse, Repair, Refurbish, Remanufacture).
We support you with lifecycle analyses and material roadmaps.
  • Transform waste streams into raw materials, energy, or new products (Repurpose, Recycle, Recover).
Our realistic studies and processes translate ideas into implementation.

From feasibility study to construction management

Our multidisciplinary team stands by you from feasibility studies and techno-economic analyses to permit advice, logistical optimisation, detailed engineering and construction management. Our strong roots in the Belgian materials sector and an international network of experts ensure we offer solutions that are both locally relevant and groundbreaking.

As a partner, we map the entire lifecycle of waste streams, minimise risks and future-proof your operations – so you turn waste into not just a sustainability opportunity but also a tangible added value for your business.

By cleverly utilising materials or residual streams, you reduce costs – for instance through heat or energy recovery – and lower your emissions.
