The role of digital helpers in reducing digital inequalities
In a European project, Sweco is investigating the impact of digital helpers on reducing the digital divide. Do you regularly help friends or family with digital matters? Share your experiences through our questionnaire and support our research on digital inequality.
The importance of digital helpers
In cooperation with the City of Brussels Sweco is doing a European research project (funded by ESPON) to better understand the role of digital caregivers in everyday life. The project focuses on Bordeaux and Brussels, two metropolitan areas that still face significant digital inequality challenges despite government efforts.
Together with partners EM Normandy Business School, UAIC Romania, and the University of Bordeaux, Sweco is conducting a comparative analysis. This analysis will provide valuable insights that can help similar initiatives in other European cities, especially those in the Eurocities Task Force on the Digital Divide.

Help bridge the digital divide
75% of the population often assists others with tasks like logging in, creating accounts, signing documents, designing simple websites, installing apps, and more. These digital helpers contribute to reducing the digital divide.
If you regularly help friends, family or colleagues with digital technology, we would like to hear from you. In order to better support you in providing this help and to develop appropriate policy, we would like to gain more insight into the situations in which you provide support.
Thank you for your valuable help!
