Sweco is excited to share the story of the new educational complex in Jette, called Mutsaard. Designed by LOW architects, this project embodies Sweco’s values, emphasizing sustainability, innovation, and societal benefit. Our experts handled all aspects of engineering, including stability, technical systems, acoustics, sustainable design, BREEAM, and EPI (Energy Performance and Indoor Climate).

A Place for Growth and Stability

The educational complex in Jette is a prime example of how sustainability and innovation can go hand in hand. Featuring a daycare for 72 children, a primary school for 456 students, a secondary school for 288 students, and two sports halls, the complex provides a modern and inspiring environment for education and sports across approximately 10,821 m².

One of the standout features is its smart and sustainable construction. Our engineers tackled challenges like a 24-meter span for the basement sports hall with creative solutions. By using innovative wall and post-tensioned beams, they created a robust and stable structure that meets top standards.

Healthy Indoor Climate Thanks to Energy Efficiency

Sustainability extends beyond the construction. The complex is designed with energy efficiency and comfort in mind. Excellent insulation and glazing keep the warmth in during winter and ensure it stays cool in summer. Thoughtful ventilation with demand-driven systems provides a healthy indoor climate while minimizing energy use. Additionally, ample natural daylight contributes to a pleasant learning environment and further reduces energy consumption.

Learning in Connection with Nature

The stacked design ensures that much-needed outdoor space is preserved in this dense urban area. The playground encourages a strong connection between students and nature. Here, education and climate-resilient design complement each other perfectly, featuring green boundaries, strategically planted trees, a vegetable garden, green roofs, and orchestrated rainwater runoff as playful elements.

Education and Well-Being for the Next Generation

The educational complex in Jette is not only a model of sustainability and innovation but also positively impacts the community. By investing in modern and inspiring educational facilities, we give future generations the best start in their educational journey.
